As you might have noticed, we haven't been actively working on the site for a few weeks. We have been busy brainstorming directions that we could possibly take Kiko, and have come up short. As a development team, we've decided we aren't able to support Kiko the way it and its users deserve to be supported, and have decided to find Kiko a new owner, by selling the site through an auction.
To our users, thanks for sticking with us through this whole journey. We've finally gotten around to writing export and delete account features, for those of you with privacy concerns through the transition. We will be sticking around through the transition to make sure Kiko stays up.
I just wanted to chime in with my own eulogy. - Rich
The original auction was taken down by eBay (see Justin's post) but Kiko has been relisted and the link above updated.
Thanks for the kind thoughts Jan. I just hope we sell it to someone that can really advance the product for you guys (aka da users).

You should add the best offer feature, as nobody is going to bid $50,000 for a business with 0 revenue

Don't you want to turn off your google ads?

Hey, guys, congrats on having taken the plunge in the first place. You can learn as much or more from your failures as your successes, so just stick with what you love doing and put this down to a fun way to learn. You guys are both great and you did fantastic work. Keep it up.

When I see the ebay auction page, I don't feel sad. I'm proud of you guys for what you accomplished.
Way to go guys.
At least you gave it a go.
That is what life is about.
Thats what the entrepreneurial spirit of this country is about.
Don't worry about critics.
Just dust yourself off and keep going.

I know you want to recover at least some of the cash you threw into it (not to mention late nights etc.) - believe me, been there, got the t-shirts. But why not put it up on open-source, and focus on value add services or a pro paid version? Many projects are going that route and work out well (for everyone) at the end. Depending how much you get the auction to go to, might be an option to pull the plug and open source this sucker :-)
ciao and see you again soon I'm sure

Good luck, guys, with whatever your next project is.

Thanks for all your kind words.
To the person that mentioned open sourcing it, that's an interesting idea, we'll have to see how the auction goes. To clarify, we don't stand to gain much with the auction personally other than to repay our investors. Something I touched on in my eulogy, now linked from this blog.

Perhaps I'm being dense, but where is the new delete feature? Thanks!

while I understand the need to return something of the venture capital, I would a) suggest that the minimum amount set may be a bit excessive to encourage a dialogue with potential buyers. b) in lieu of a buyer, I would encourage you to consider making the source (and any documentation) freely available.
Thank you for a great experience, the opportunity to enjoy a great product. You are talented team and have my admiration and respect.
Thank you and good fortune.

Aren't there enough users to club together to buy it? at 50000 dollars, 1000 users could buy it for 50 dollars each....

Sorry to hear about this. I only discovered the site now, and would have gladly signed on (I still am signing up.) I do believe that there is room for independent companies and services like Kiko. Good luck and I wish you success in whatever you do.

Wow. That's big news... Sad but true, I wish you guys all the best and hope you'll sell it for a price that's worth the work you've put into kiko.
