New Version Launch!

Kiko is back with an all new interface and feature set! After we launched the first version of Kiko last year, Emmett and I sat down and had a conversation that went like this:

Justin: What should we add to Kiko next? Reminders? Improved address book? RSS feeds?
Emmett: Actually, I think adding things would be a lot easier if we rewrote a few parts of the site...
Justin: Hmm, how long do you think it'll take us?
Emmett: One month.

Six months later, we've completely rewritten the site from the ground up in Ruby on Rails and dojo. Along the way, we doubled the size of our team, rebuilt the UI from the lessons we learned from the first version, and added a bunch of new features that we think our users will love. Here are some of the things we're particularly proud of:

  • Tabbed Interface! Particularly useful for navigating multiple appointments and contacts.
  • Sharing! Your calendar is publically viewable at kiko.com/calendar/username. You can also invite any email or AIM to an appointment and have an invitation delivered to them for you.
  • Reminders! Get them sent to an email, AIM screen name, or mobile phone via SMS.
  • New Contact Manager! You can now add and store all your contacts, even people who don't have a Kiko account.
  • RSS Feed! Get your upcoming appointment list delivered to you.
  • Stability! 110% uptime and less than 50 javascript errors per session guaranteed!

We plan on rolling out new features early and often, so let us know what you want. In the meantime, schedule away...

w00t go us!

I must say...I wasn't blown away by the first version way back when but as of 4/18/06, I am VERY impressed with kiko. If plans are underway for offline synchronization and it's not too far away then I do believe I'm going to start using kiko as my primary online calendar. Now, it's just me waiting on pins and needles for the ability to sync. Fantastic application. Great job!
